Standard #6: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
"The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner."
Professional Memberships
As a professional musician, I have acquired a number of professional memberships that continuously provide me with new insights and ideas via printed materials, online databases, workshops, and conference opportunities. I am currently a member of the Indiana Music Education Association (IMEA), the International Kodály Society (IKS), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Flute Association (NFA), and the Organization of Kodály Educators. Previously, I have also been a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). For more information about any of these organizations, please click on the name to visit their official website.
Recommendation (Dr. Jerry Jaccard)
Dr. Jaccard served as a member of my graduate committee during the pursuit of my Masters of Music in performance and also as a personal mentor. He is the educator that piqued my interest in general music education and in the Kodály approach. Because he also oversees the elementary music programs of the Provo School District, after graduation, I continued to work under him as the flute instructor for the After School Music School and as one of the music specialists in the Provo School District.

Brigham Young University, Music 575R InterMuse Academy (Kodály Certification)
As part of Kodály Certification granted by the BYU InterMuse Academy, each student participates in the Chamber Choir, which presents a concert at the end of each summer course. The Chamber Choir sings a wide variety of repertoire, much of which is two- or three-part. These rehearsals and performances have given me a greater range of choir music that I am now familiar with and could use with an upper-level children’s choir. Below is a recording of our 2012 performance of the Senegal canon Tumba.
