Standard 4: Assessment
"Teachers of grades P–12 have a broad and comprehensive understanding of assessment principles and practices and demonstrate the ability to use assessment to monitor student progress and to use data to guide instructional decision making."
Indiana University, E535 Measurement, Evaluation and Guidance in Music (Dr. Peter Miksza)
Below are the products of a semester-long project to develop measurements pertinent to our individual fields in the cognitive and psychomotor learning areas of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Both measures were designed for older elementary students and were administered fourth graders as part of the project. The measures address ability to read and understand musical notation (cognitive measure) and ability to read and understand musical notation and perform and the recorder (psychomotor measure). The cognitive measure is accompanied by the test blueprint, which maps out the specific test items as applied to the domains of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The psychomotor measure is presented in a Likert scale format. Finally, I have also included the data report of the results gathered from administering the measures to twenty fourth grade students.
Knowledge: Documents – Cognitive Measure & Blueprint and Psychomotor Measure
Performance: Paper – Data Report
Indiana University, E502 The Practice of Music Teaching (Dr. Brent Gault)
This course included a semester project to develop a curriculum, complete with a timeline of implementation and course objectives. The explanation/rationale for the curriculum, the course objectives, and the timeline can be found under the link to Standard #3: Instructional Planning and Diversity. Below is the outline for assessment that I would use in implementing this curriculum.
