Standard 1: Student Development and Diversity
"Teachers of grades P–12 have a broad and comprehensive understanding of student development and diversity and demonstrate the ability to provide instruction that is responsive to student differences and that promotes development and learning for all students."
Indiana University, EDUC K505 Introduction to Special Education (Dr. Gail Ringwalt)
As the name suggests, this course focused on diversity in the classroom. At one point in the semester, we reflected on the learning we had done so far and wrote a paper regarding our philosophy on teaching for equity and openness. Below is my reflection on this topic.
Disposition: Paper - K505 Teaching for Equity and Openness
We also learned inclusion strategies as part of our coursework. One of my favorite assignments was to read about "invitations" and suggest a possible "invitation" assignment for my future classroom.
